The majority of this class will be spent out in the woods. The terrain will be mostly flat (walking, not hiking). The location will depend on the weather forecast. If there is rain, we will use Silver Lake Park; if no rain, we will use Northwest Natura’s land. Both locations are about 2 miles from Maple Falls. Details on location will be updated as the date approaches.
What to Bring:
Dress for the weather
Snacks/Lunch and plenty of water
Waterproof or water-resistant footwear
A thermos or mug for tea
Camp chair
Outdoor blanket
You may also want to bring:
A notebook and pen
DSLR camera
Extra layers, gloves, beanie, etc.
Hygiene kit (WAG bag for doing business in the woods)
Your favorite field guide (plants, lichens, ferns, moss, wildlife)
Additional Information
Will we be next to our cars during the course?
Yes. The parking lot at either location will be near our basecamp.
Do we have access to restroom facilities?
Silver Lake has pit toilet facilities that may still be closed in March but sometimes they open early. Please plan to bring whatever you need to do business in the woods just in case. Northwest Natura land will have a primitive option.
Will there be shelter from the rain?
Yes. At Silver Lake Park, there are a few options for shelter. We will use the Maple Creek Shelter if it is unoccupied (first come first serve in the off season) and we will have a fire.
Details are subject to change based on weather or other uncontrollable circumstances.
