Saturday July 27th, 2024

1pm-5:30pm

Please join botanist, Jazmen Yoder, for this unique field trip that combines art and science in learning the botanical terms for patterns found in nature.

This course is designed to be memorable and engaging with hands-on activities and a fun walk through the woods collecting flowers for pressing and preserving in a large art pad provided to you with tuition.

Our activities will include:

  1. Plant Identification (a stroll through the woods)

  2. Flower collection and pressing

  3. Arts and crafts with flowers

  4. Herbarium journaling

  5. Learning botanical terminology (Botany 101)

  6. Labeling and defining patterns and observations.

There are so many ways to generally describe a leaf’s shape and growth patterns, and there are unique flower patterns to learn too! There are scientific terms that botanists use that you will learn in this class that will help you recognize plant families and individual species. I’ll make it fun and easy to learn.

12” spiralbound art pads and pens/pencils will be given to all individuals present. Arts and crafts materials will be available for you to use.

What to Bring:

  1. Dress for the weather

  2. Comfortable shoes or hiking boots

  3. Snacks/lunch and water

  4. Packable camp chair or blanket

  5. Foraging basket

  6. Scissors or a knife

  7. An old book (preferably oversized, like a textbook, for pressing and transporting leaves)

Class size is limited.

Registered individuals will receive details on location in an event-reminder email in the week leading up to the event.
